Q&A: Dr. Michael Gustafson on fighting burnout with compassion

As the new Chief Executive Officer at the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, Michael Gustafson, M.D., M.B.A., helps advance connection, communication and well-being for patients, clinicians and care teams. Schwartz Center programs, including Schwartz Rounds, have a 30-year track record and heightened relevance in the current environment of mounting pressures and stress in health care settings. Dr. Gustavson applies his experience as an executive leader and expertise in patient safety to help improve workplace culture and the experience of all in health care.

With more than 75 trained volunteers, our Virtual Peer Support Network is here for you

The Betsy Lehman Center has built a robust Virtual Peer Support Network offering peer-to-peer encouragement, support and resources to anyone in the health care community who needs help coping with work-related stressors. The network provides training, fields requests from clinicians and others who reach out for support, and matches them with an appropriate volunteer. The network is confidential and free to all who work in Massachusetts health care organizations.

Forum highlights recent work by Massachusetts PFACs 

Patient and Family Advisory Council members from nearly 40 hospitals and health systems attended a virtual forum last month to share recent work. This was the second in a series of opportunities for PFAC members to gather virtually and discuss strategies to maximize the impact and value of the councils. The series is offered by the Betsy Lehman Center as it expands its efforts to support the work of PFACs in the state.
