As more hospitals offer Communication, Apology and Resolution (CARe) programs, the opportunities to share ideas, experiences and tools grow as well. The Betsy Lehman Center supports CARe programming in health care organizations across Massachusetts and offers the following updates:
- More than 100 resources — from video simulations to case studies to checklists and research articles — are available for free use or download on the Center’s website here. Resources are curated by a group of advisers to the Center who work in health care settings with CARe programs.
- Save the date for the 11th annual CARe forum, which will be held on Friday, October 18, in Boston. While remote attendance is an option, last year’s in-person attendees met colleagues from across the state, talked with the forum’s guest speakers and enjoyed conversations over lunch. Material from past forums is available here and registration for the 2024 forum will open later this spring.
- A new article entitled “How to Engage With Patients Who Have Been Harmed and Move Toward Reconciliation” features Melinda Van Niel, Director of CARe at the Betsy Lehman Center, as a co-author. The abstract for the paper, published this month by Quality Management in Health Care, can be found here.
Please reach out to Melinda Van Niel with any questions or suggestions about CARe programming or resources.
